“Seeding the future”: HMC continued its EXPO commitment by organizing the German contribution to the landscape gardening exhibition in Beijing.
A circular garden surrounding a pavilion follows an artificial river bed. The meandering path is bordered by plants typical of the Alps, the pre-Alps, the German hill regions, heathland and the Baltic and North Sea coastlines.
At the center of the 2,000-square-meter garden lies the two-story German Pavilion, surrounded by “green screens”. The planting concept in front of these screens continues in a vertical dimension on them. This merges the garden and the building into a single entity. There is a multimedia exhibition to see inside the pavilion. It presents the latest research findings, technical innovations, successful projects and new ideas from landscape gardening in Germany, which all have one thing in common: they can help to raise the quality of life in mega-cities. The motto of the show underlines this aim: “Live Green, Live Better”. The German contribution to the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, which opened on April 29 in Beijing, China, is rounded off by a public space with a restaurant, beer garden and a children’s playground.

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture appointed Hamburg Messe und Congress with the planning, organization and implementation of the German contribution. HMC has a wealth of EXPO experience. For example, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy it was responsible for the German pavilions at the world fairs in 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain, 2012 in Yeosu, South Korea, 2016 in Antalya, Turkey, and 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Exhibitions in ten countries
In the reporting year the International Department of HMC advised a total of 347 German exhibitors on fairs in ten countries. It was active on every continent in the world, with the exception of Australia. Customers were advised at the food fair SIAL in Paris, at the Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami and the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, among many others.
HMC’s International Department is busy again in 2019. It will support a good 20 German joint participations on behalf of various federal ministries or in its own name. They include stands at the Kormarine international shipbuilding and marine fair in Busan, South Korea, at the Trenchless Asia (construction technology, building materials, machinery, interior outfitting) in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the healthcare exhibition Medic East Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.
